Rediscover Your Passion For Writing During COVID-19
Are you lacking the motivation to write, well, anything? You’re not alone.
It’s easy to get caught up with the news and social media updates. Even TikTok videos and binge-worthy Netflix shows can be addictive. But if you are ready to get back to work, how do you jumpstart your passion for writing?
With everything going on in the world, finding time to write may not feel like a priority. At least not this minute. And that’s okay! We are mid-pandemic. Everyone is thrown by physical distancing and a new stay-at-home routine, especially when kids are in the picture.
So, what can you do to focus on your writing?
Get Back To Basics
Why did you start writing in the first place? Is it an outlet for difficult times or overpowering emotions? Is it an escape? Do you simply love words? All of these are perfect reasons to continue writing. In fact, use this unique situation to compliment a new project. Maybe you can modify the perspective of physical distancing and loneliness to something fantastical. (If that’s your thing.)
Carve Out Time
This can be at night, in the morning, or during lunch. When you are comfortable in an newly formed routine, it can be difficult to modify. Begin by allocating writing time in your day — even an hour will do. This holds yourself accountable.
Listen to Something Different
Most authors say that music impacts or influences their writing to some degree. If this pandemic has you in a funk, listen to something different. Maybe consider trying out a podcast. Inspiration can stem from anywhere.
Natural Light
You may not be able to go outside, but you can sit near a window. Bask in the sunlight as best you can while still being safe. This will increase your body’s production of Vitamin D, which leaves us feeling happier and more focused.
Read, Read, Read
Don’t forget to read! This will help you stretch those imagination muscles, so you can kickstart your own story. Whether you switch genres or stick with what you love, there’s no wrong answer here.
These are only a few tips to get you started. When you lack motivation, it negatively affects your passion for doing basically anything. Rediscover your passion for writing and get to it! While physical distancing is necessary, you may have lots of writing time on your hands.
